SSRA 2017-18 U14 Team (Ages 12-13)

Click on the Registration button at the bottom of this page to begin the Registration process

The SSRA U14 program is for 12-13 year olds who want to become expert all mountain skiers and develop/improve their alpine ski racing skills. Our U14 program refines fundamental skills sets and develops race skills and tactics through the use of directed free skiing, drills, drills with aid, and gate training. The U14 program introduces discipline specific (SL/GS/SG) race skills and tactics. The program options include a 2-Day (Saturday and Sunday) option, and a Full Time option (Sat, Sun, Wed Night, Thursday Night, Friday or Friday Night.)

All options include speed training, coaching at home races, and coaching at Evergreen Cup races. The U14 program prepares and develops athletes for an easy transition to our U16 program and higher levels of racing (Northwest Cups)

ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Athletes should be able to ski all terrain with parallel turns

EQUIPMENT

Each athlete needs at least one pair of Slalom and Giant Slalom race skis. Many athletes choose to purchase a pair of Super G skis as well but this is not necessary. Powder skis and twin tips will inhibit skill development and are not recommended. FIS approved helmets, goggles, poles and shin guards are required. Back Protectors are required for Super G, and a chin bar or mouth guard is required for slalom. Boots are the most important component of your equipment and are many times the primary constraint to skill development. It is very important that the athlete can flex the boots easily. Please contact your head coach or myself prior to purchasing new boots.  Coaches and staff are available to answer equipment questions.

SCHEDULE

The U14 program runs from December 9th through April 1st. Training is typically on Hourglass. Weekly emails will be sent detailing plans. Training begins at 9:00am, lunch from 11:30-12:30, training ends at 2:30pm.

RACING

The U14 program includes coaching at the SSRA club race (December 31st) and selected Evergreen Cup Races. U14 athletes can still attend EEYSL races, however, due to changes in PNSA, U14’s will not count towards team results in EEYSL, will not qualify for regional races out of EEYSL, and SSRA will not have U14 staff at EEYSL Races. This year U14’s will race and qualify out of Evergreen Cups. The Evergreen Cup series is a higher level of racing that is open to U14 and older athletes.

The SSRA U14 Evergreen Cup race schedule will be posted once PNSA has finalized the Evergreen Cup schedule.

We want to emphasize that it is not necessary to attend all races, however U14 staff are committed to athletes at these races and will not always be available for at home training during these times.

Race entry fees, lodging, lift tickets and USSA Membership are not included in program tuition.

CAMPS

Holiday Camp - Included in the tuition and includes an additional four days of training December 27-30 (Tuesday-Friday)
