The SSRA YSL programs are for 6-11 year olds. These programs are designed to develop fundamental skiing skills that provide young athletes with the tools become strong all mountain skiers in addition to good alpine ski racers. The programs emphasize fundamental skill development and teach technical and tactical race skills. The program options include a 1-Day (Saturday or Sunday), a 2-Day (Saturday and Sunday) and a 4-Day (Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday Night, and Friday night). All YSL programs include coaching at home races and all EEYSL races.
Athletes should be able to ski intermediate terrain with parallel turns. The athletes must also be able to load and ride the lift alone.
One pair all-mountain or junior race skis is sufficient for U8-U10. Some athletes choose to purchase a pair of Slalom and Giant Slalom race skis. U12’s in the YSL program should purchase a pair of junior Slalom and Giant Slalom skis. Powder skis and twin tips will inhibit skill development and are not recommended. Helmets, goggles and poles are required. Shin guards are optional. Boots are the most important component of your equipment. It is very important that the athlete can flex the boots easily and that the boots are not too big. Oversized boots and boots that are too stiff are the most common constraints to skill development in young athletes. Our coaches and staff are available to answer equipment questions.
The YSL programs run from December 9th to March 25th. Weekly emails will be sent detailing the training plans. Training begins at 9:00am, lunch with parents 11:30-12:30, afternoon training 12:30 -2:30pm. View the SSRA YSL calendar for daily schedule and planning purposes:

This program includes coaching at the SSRA club race (December 31st) and the EEYSL (Emerald Empire Youth Ski League) races. This year the EEYSL will host races at Schweitzer (Jan 20-21), Mt. Spokane (Feb 10-11), 49 Degrees North (March 3-4), and Lookout Pass (March 24-25). Race entry fees, lodging, lift tickets and USSA Membership are not included in program tuition.
Our Holiday Camp is included in the tuition and includes an additional four days of training (December 27-30).
As a non-profit volunteer based organization, parent volunteering is essential to providing a quality program for our athletes. Parents are required to volunteer three days at a SSRA hosted race or event.
