pnsalogosmall  June 1 (Pasco, WA)- The Spokane Ski Racing Assocation and Mt. Spokane received the nod to host the 2015 Buddy Werner Championships; the division's U14 championships. It is the third time since 2000 that the prestigious event will be held at Mt. Spokane. The race will take place March 12-15, 2015 and will consist of a Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom, and Skills Quest competition. The competition has attracted between 220-250 athletes, ages 12-13 from Oregon, Washington, and North Idaho. By the end of the weekend, team and individual champions will be crowned. In addition, SSRA was awarded the PNSA Western Region U16 Championships Qualifier #1. This will take place January 16-19, 2015 and will bring the fastest 14 and 15 year old from around the Pacific Northwest together in two slaloms and one giant slalom. To round out the schedule, SSRA was awarded a two-day Emerald Empire Youth Ski League races to take place February 21-22, 2015. The giant slalom/slalom races will consist of the seven teams from around the Inland Northwest and a field of approximately 200 athletes ages 13 and under.

May30-June1 (Pasco, WA)- Five SSRA parent volunteers and one coach were recogninzed at the annual Pacific Northwest Ski Association convention taking place over the weekend. Mark Burandt, SSRA Alpine Team Coach, won the alpine coach of the year award. It is the second time that Burandt has received the award and the third time that an SSRA coach has been bestowed the honor. In addition, five SSRA parent volunteers were awarded. Tabitha Hamilton, Clive Luiten, Jan Simpson, Stacey McClellan, and Brook Ellingwood were awarded PNSA Unsung Hero awards. The Unsung Hero award is given to volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty and are often overlooked. Each of the PNSA awards are nominations by peers and other members in PNSA. Congratulations to Mark and all of the SSRA dedicated who received awards this year!
