SSRA/MT. SPOKANE AWARDED 2016 RACES
May 30 (Hood River)- SSRA and Mt. Spokane were awarded two divisional races to be held in 2016. The duo will host U16 Qualifier 1 (Evergreen Cup), Sat-Mon, January 16-18 with a training day planned for Friday, January 15. In addition, SSRA was awarded Northwest Cup Finals for the first time. This prestigious event is the culminating competition for PNSA's Northwest Cup Series. The finals will take place April 6-10 and consist of a Super G, Giant Slalom, Slalom and Dual Slalom. SSRA will likely hold a training day Wednesday, April 6. June 16 (Spokane)- SSRA and Mt. Spokane are slated to host two EEYSL races during the 2015-2016 season. June 6 (Hood River)- Ten SSRA members were presented awards at the annual Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) Convention taking place June 5-7 in Hood River, Oregon. MCCLELLAN; SIMPSON RISE AT THE ROSE
March 30-31 (Government Camp, OR) Twelve SSRA U16 and U14 athletes travelled to Mt. Hood's Timberline ski area to compete in the 80th annual Golden Rose ski races. The special Evergreen Cup series features 4 slalom races in just two days. The SSRA Team arrived a day early to train after nearly 6 weeks off of snow. In women's race A, Ali Gunesch (MHA/Brown Univ) won the race in 1:12.27. Isabell Simpson took top honors for SSRA finishing in 41st overall (12th U14, 8th 2001) in 1:27.24. On the men's side Luke Winters (SBA/NTG) took top honors in 1:10.49 while SSRA athletes were paced by Jared Farley in 18th place (7th U16, 6th 1999) in 1:19.66. PNSA NORTHWEST CUP / U16 FINALS- MCCLELLAN; FARLEYS, SIMPSPONS LEAD SSRA
April 10-13 (Mission Ridge): This year, PNSA's Northwest Cup Finals and U16 Finals were combined for the first time to cut down on starts and avoid redundancies of the two previous finals races. The event consisted of slalom and GS only because low snowpack elminated the Skookum SG track. In addition, since so many Evergreen Cups had been lost during the season, MRST agreed to host two Evergreen Cup races. Regardless of the format, twelve SSRA U16 and U14 athletes travelled to Wenatchee to compete in the PNSA finals. It was an outstanding series with SSRA athletes performing remarkably well in their age classes and years of birth. The team will next compete at Golden Rose Evergreen Cup on May 30-31. SSRA BRINGS EEYSL TEAM TROPHY HOME
March 22 (Lookout Pass)- SSRA clinched the Emerald Empire Youth Ski League title on Sunday at Lookout Pass. It was the 7th time that SSRA has won the team title since its inception in 1997. The team trophy is contested by the 7 EEYSL Teams (SSRA, FAST, SARS, INDY, BART, LPRT and SMART). After 9 races, SSRA led the league and claimed the cup. "It is a testament to our team's development, our coaches, our families, and our athletes. We are extemely proud of our team and what they have accomplished," said SSRA Executive Director/Head Coach, Chuck Holcomb. MCCLELLAN REPRESENTS AT U16 CHAMPS
March 22 (Bend, OR)- Cole McClellan represented SSRA and the Pacific Northwest Ski Association (PNSA) at the Western Region U16 Champsionships at Mt. Bachelor, March 22. The four-race event brought together the best who qualified from the five Western Divisions (PNSA, Far West-CA/NV/HI, Intermountain-ID/UT/WY/NV, Northern-MT/WY, and Alaska-AK). McClellan led the athletes representing Inland Northwest teams in all three races and was consistently fast. In the Super G race, McClellan posted a strong 30th (10th for PNSA athletes) place stopping the clock in 1:09.70. The race was won by PNSA's Walter Lafky (MBSEF) in 1:07.22. Cole took 34th in the giant slalom (6th for PNSA) recording a time of 2:21.46. Winston Pretti from the FarWest Division won the race in 2:11.11. McClellan again led the Inland Northwest with his stongest performance of the championships popping a 21st place in slalom (5th for PNSA) stopping the watch in 1:39.59. U14's SHINE AT BUDDY WERNER CHAMPS
March 12-15, 2015 (Spokane) Twenty of the finest U14 athletes in the Pacific Northwest traveled to Schweitzer for the annual Buddy Werner U14 Championships. The annual event brings together teams from across the Pacific Northwest Ski Assocaition and ski areas from Oregon, Washington, and North Idaho. SSRA had one of the largest teams in the event with 13 boys and 7 girls competing. After three days of racing, the SSRA men took 2nd overall out of 20 teams. The SSRA women took 5th place and the SSRA Combined team finished a very respectable 4th. FARLEY; SCHEIDT LEAD PNSA AT CANAMS
March 15 (Apex, BC)- Jared Farley(left) and Hunter Scheidt (right) provided leadership and fast runs at the 2015 CanAm Championship races at Apex, British Columbia. The March 13-15 event included a super g, giant slalom, and slalom. In the Super G, Jared Farley led PNSA with a 50th place. Giant slalom was next with a PNSA-leading repeat performance for Farley stopping the clock in 44th place. Scheidt was close behind crossing the line in 50th place. The event ended with Sunday's slalom. Scheidt led SSRA and was 2nd for PNSA when he took 52nd place in the two-run cumulative time. Hunter moved up from a start position of 70th
